The Answer
Sometimes The Answer has been right in front of you the whole time. Sometimes for hundreds of years.
With the explosion of research and interpretation of the works of the great historical masters of Western Martial Arts, it’s becoming ever more clear that their combat and training methods for personal defense and military action are as sophisticated and effective as anything we see today.
We are a group of individuals with diverse experience and interests, sharing a passion about the research and reconstruction of historical and ancient works on hand to hand combat and fieldcraft. We are lending our strength to the rebirth of the awareness that these methods have applications that fit nicely into the Modern World.

Concept Of Operations
1. Phoenix Arms Historical Training researches texts and traditions of historical and ancient masters of the Western Martial Arts. The group intends the work to be both scholarly and practical, providing a system of techniques and training in combatives and fieldcraft reconstructed from these works.
2. The group provides instruction in the application and integration of historical/ancient traditions and techniques to the modern context.
3. The group researches and instructs modern methods for personal and group security.

Chief Instructor for Modern Combatives and Conflict Resolution William T. Clark was raised on “God, Guns, and Heinlein.” A self-described “redneck hippie,” he’s a US Navy veteran with over 20 years experience in Intelligence and Military Operations. Bill found sport fencing and Aikido at West Virginia University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. He’s been practicing Eastern and Western martial arts ever since. Bill has been a victim, errr–student, of the Russian Martial Art of Systema for several years.
Bill’s passion is to pursue and refine knowledge and skills for effective conflict resolution. His experience allows him to integrate ancient and modern principles, tactics, and techniques for reality-based operations and security. His belief is that awareness is the primary skill, because the best fight is the one that is prevented.
Guest experts and instructors are welcome and highly encouraged to join in and share their knowledge.

Anyone with interest is welcome to join. Fees for lessons, seminars, and demonstrations are negotiable.
